I understand that you are busy. Many past Toolkit members have worked full time jobs and/or have families. on average you might spend one to two hours a week going through course content in addition to personal language study time, maybe more and maybe less. That’s why this course is self-paced. You can access all the video lessons right away, and you can always email me with any additional questions that you have no matter where you are in the course.
Most Toolkit members probably learn aspects of the Yoruba or Igbo language itself from the Learn On Your Own Toolkit. However this course primarily provides you with tools and strategies for how to navigate the process of learning Yoruba or Igbo. In the course you will also find recommended resources for the actual language skills (e.g. alphabet, tones, subject pronouns, etc.). Free resources are always prioritized. The course is not designed to teach you the language itself.
While it’s probably never possible to learn any language completely on your own, this course it designed to give you the guidance you need to learn as much on your own as possible before it makes sense for you to learn from other resources (like a language textbook or a tutor).
The Learn On Your Own Toolkit is designed to be used with or without a private tutor. You probably will need to learn from a tutor and/or textbook once you enter the intermediate and/or advanced levels of the language due to the limited availability of advanced grammar explanations of these languages on the internet. I do not recommend hiring a tutor in the very beginning level except for special circumstances because you can learn all the skills in that level from free resources online. Plus, hiring a tutor for language lessons will likely not provide you with other resources provided in the Learn On Your Own Toolkit – study skills and strategies, worksheets, troubleshooting strategies, resource recommendations for when a tutor doesn’t explain things well enough, etc. You can also always hire a tutor for one-off sessions whenever you need to as a supplement to what you learn from the Learn On Your Own Toolkit, the resources recommended inside the course, and a quality language textbook.
Because of the nature of the online course and the downloadable resources included with it, there are no refunds after payment has been made except for extenuating circumstances. You have everything you need in this course to help give you a basis in where to start in trying to learn Yoruba or learn Igbo on your own. So if you are feeling like you ever have concerns, just let me know. I’m not going to let you back down from achieving your Yoruba or Igbo language learning goals!
